SHAPE UP YOUR PSYCHE! ®
is an emotional fitness program and philosophy which offers a more widely acceptable, de-stigmatized alternative to the medical illness psychotherapy model for emotional well-being. Most people are not mentally or emotionally ill, but simply emotionally "out of shape." The exercises
called Emo-cises®
are completed in 5-10 minute EMOTIONAL WORKOUTS and are of 3 general types: BODY-TALK, MIND-FOCUS, and CONTACT-POWER and can easily be done during a normal day's regular routines and activities. The basic premise of the SHAPE UP YOUR PSYCHE! emotional workout program is that just as the body needs regular exercise to stay healthy and strong, our emotions also need to be regularly exercised in order for us to become better able to know, express, and deal with our own emotional experiences, as well as to interact more effectively and compassionately with others.
